এই রাজ্যের অধিবাসীরা প্রধানত গুজরাতি। লোথাল ও ধোলাবীরার মতো প্রাচীন সিন্ধু সভ্যতার কয়েকটি কেন্দ্র এই রাজ্যে অবস্থিত। প্রাচীন কাল থেকেই ভারতের অর্থনৈতিক ইতিহাসে গুজরাত এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থানের অধিকারী।প্রাচীন ও বর্তমান ভারতের কয়েকটি প্রধান বন্দর এই রাজ্যে অবস্থিত। এই কারণে গুজরাত প্রাচীন কাল থেকেই ভারতের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বাণিজ্যকেন্দ্রও বটে। বিশ্বের অন্যতম প্রাচীন বন্দর লোথাল ও এই রাজ্যে অবস্থিত ছিল।
গুজরাটে ভ্রমণের জন্য শীর্ষ 13টি স্থান এবং দর্শনীয় স্থান–
কারুশিল্প, স্থাপত্য, মন্দির এবং বন্যপ্রাণীর মতো বিভিন্ন আকর্ষণ সহ গুজরাটে আসলে দেখার মতো কিছু আশ্চর্যজনক স্থান রয়েছে।

গির জাতীয় উদ্যান–গীর জাতীয় উদ্যান এবং বন্যপ্রাণী অভয়ারণ্য (যা শশান গীর নামেও পরিচিত), হল ভারতের মধ্য গুজরাতের টালালা গীরে অবস্থিত একটি বন এবং বন্যপ্রাণী অভয়ারণ্য।
গীর জাতীয় উদ্যান প্রতি বছর ১৬ জুন থেকে ১৫ অক্টোবর পর্যন্ত বন্ধ থাকে। এটি দেখার সেরা সময় ডিসেম্বর এবং মার্চের মধ্যে। যদিও এপ্রিল এবং মে মাসে খুব গরম থাকে, তবে বন্যজীবন দেখার এবং আলোকচিত্রের জন্য এটাই সেরা মাস।
