বঙ্গোপসাগরের উত্তর দিকে বাংলাদেশের সীমান্তে অবস্থিত।২০১১ সালের জনগণনা অনুযায়ী, এই রাজ্যের জনসংখ্যা ৯ কোটি১৩ লক্ষেরও বেশি। জনসংখ্যার নিরিখে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ভারতের চতুর্থ সর্বাধিক জনবহুল রাজ্য (প্রথম-উত্তর প্রদেশ, দ্বিতীয়- মহারাষ্ট্র, তৃতীয়-বিহার )। এই রাজ্যের আয়তন ৮৮৭৫২ বর্গ কি. মি.। পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বাংলাভাষী বাঙালি জাতি অধ্যুষিত অবিভক্ত বাংলার একটি অংশ। এই রাজ্যের পূর্ব দিকে বাংলাদেশ রাষ্ট্র এবং উত্তর দিকে নেপাল ও ভুটান রাষ্ট্র অবস্থিত। ভারতের ওড়িশা, ঝাড়খণ্ড, বিহার, সিক্কিম ও অসম রাজ্যও পশ্চিমবঙ্গের সীমান্তবর্তী। রাজ্যের রাজধানী কলকাতা শহরটি হল ভারতের সপ্তম বৃহত্তম মহানগরী৷

ভৌগোলিক দিক থেকে দার্জিলিং হিমালয় পার্বত্য অঞ্চল,   

একে পাহাড়ের রানি বলা হয়। এখানের প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য অতুলনীয়।

দার্জিলিং এর চা পৃথিবী বিখ্যাত,এর স্বাদের জন্য।

গাঙ্গেয় বদ্বীপ, রাঢ় অঞ্চল ও উপকূলীয় সুন্দরবনের অংশবিশেষ এই রাজ্যের অন্তর্গত। 

পৃথিবী বিখ্যাত রয়েল বেঙ্গল টাইগার এই সুন্দর বনের রাজা।

বঙ্গোপসাগরের তীরে অবস্থিত এই রাজ্যে র দর্শনীয় স্থান দীঘা, এর সুমদ্রতট টি অতুলনীয়।

দীঘা মেদিনীপুর জেলায় অবস্থিত। প্রচুর ভ্রমন পিপাসু মানুষদের আকর্ষনীয় স্থান এটি। 

বাঙালিরাই এই রাজ্যের প্রধান জাতিগোষ্ঠী এবং রাজ্যটি অবশ্যই ভ্রমণ এর আদর্শ স্থান।

এ রাজ্যের সব থেকে বড় উৎসব দুর্গাপূজা, অবশ্যই একবার দর্শন করুন পশ্চিমবঙ্গ।
