 হিমাচল প্রদেশ শব্দটির আক্ষরিক অর্থ তুষারাবৃত পর্বতসংকুল অঞ্চল।হিমাচল প্রদেশের অপর নাম দেবভূমি (দেবতা দের দেশ)।। ১৯৭১ সালের হিমাচল প্রদেশ রাজ্য আইন অনুযায়ী ভারতীয় প্রজাতন্ত্রের অষ্টাদশ রাজ্য হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করে হিমাচল প্রদেশ। এ রাজ্যে বহু স্বনামধন্য বোর্ডিং স্কুল অবস্থিত।

মাথাপিছু আয়ের হিসেব অনুযায়ী হিমাচল প্রদেশ ভারতের একটি প্রথম সারির রাজ্য।

হিমাচল প্রদেশের অর্থনীতি জলবিদ্যুৎ, পর্যটন ও কৃষির উপর গভীরভাবে নির্ভরশীল।

কী দেখবেনঃ হিমাচলের মূলত তিনটি জায়গাকে কেন্দ্র করে ভ্রমণ পরিকল্পনা করা হয়ে থাকে। একদিকে পড়ে সিমলা কুলু মানালি, অন্য দিকে পড়ে কল্পা কিন্নর। এখানেই দেখা মেলে হিড়িম্বা মন্দির ও বশিষ্ঠ মন্দিরের। কিন্নর দর্শণও হয়ে যায়। তবে এই জায়গাটিকে দেখতে গেলে হাতে রাখতে হবে বেশ কয়েকটি দিন। ঝর্ণা ও পাহাড়ে ঘেরা এই জায়গাতে রয়েছে এক মনোরম সৌন্দর্য যা, হিমাচলের এক ভিন্ন রূপ তুলে ধরে। এই জায়গা একটা ট্রিপে দেখতে গেলে সময় লাগবে মোটের ওপর ২০ দিন। কিন্তু তা যদি ভেঙে নেওয়া যায় তবে সাত দিনই যথেষ্ট। এখানেই রয়েছে বিশ্বের সর্বোচ্চ স্থানে অবস্থিত পোস্ট অফিস। সঙ্গে সর্বোচ্চ স্থানে অবস্থিত গ্রামও। শীতের সময় পুরো জায়গা ঢেকে যায় বরফে। তবে যদি পাহাড়ের রঙ, রূপ, উপভোগ করতে হয় তবে এই জায়গাকে এক কথায় দশে দশ দিতেই হয়। 

হিমাচলের নারী ও পুরুষ-

হিমাচলে গড়ে চার হাজার কোটি টাকার ব্যবসা হয় প্রতি বছর। আট লাখ টন (১ টন = ৯০৭, ১৮৫ কেজি) আপেল উৎপাদন হয় হিমাচলে। প্রবল আনন্দ ও উৎসাহে ক্রেতাদের সঙ্গে লেনদেন চলছে।
